Scholarship Details

The BayWa scholarship scheme assists selected New Zealand citizens to complete a research-based PhD in the fields of agriculture, horticulture or fruit cultivation at a New Zealand university. The BayWa Scholarship will fund up to a maximum of four years (48 months) of full-time PhD study. 


The BayWa Scholarship covers 

-Annual Course fees and student levies (up to NZD$12,000) 

-An annual stipend/living allowance of NZD$25,000 

-A one-off book and thesis preparation allowance of NZD$1,500 


Awardees may also apply for actual and reasonable costs of attendance and travel to relevant national and international conferences. Costs associated with fieldwork (where they are not covered by the university) may also be approved for payment under the Scholarship. Deadline for 2015 applications is 5 pm 30 April. Applications for 2016 open in June 2015 


Eligibility 

Applicants must meet ALL five non-negotiable eligibility criteria: 

-Be a New Zealand citizen 

-Hold a minimum: 

oA- average across most recent or highest tertiary qualification, OR 

oAverage mark of 75% and above across most recent or highest tertiary qualification, OR 

oGPA of 7.5 out of 9.0 and above in most recent or highest tertiary qualification 

-Intend to undertake their PhD study in New Zealand (not from a distance) 

-Meet the requirements for direct entry into a PhD programme at their nominated NZ university 

-Have not started, or be within three months of their PhD start date at the submission deadline of the Scholarship.

BayWa Scholarship General Terms and Conditions 

All Awardees: 

1.Must sign an Acceptance Form and Declaration prior to award and receipt of the scholarship. This refers to the full Terms and Conditions of the Scholarship 

2.May not apply for or receive any other scholarship funding for tuition during their BayWa Scholarship 

3.Must take up the scholarship in the year for which it is offered 

4.Agree to participate in promotion and alumni activities 

5.Must maintain satisfactory academic progress in accordance with criteria set by ENZ/BayWa AG and the University.
